Yeah, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Takedown was a week and a half ago.
Yeah, it was okay.
Oh, who am I kidding?
IT WAS FREAKIN’ AWESOME, YA’LL! I GOT TO SEE SO MANY FRIENDS AND BY THE WAY I ALSO GOT A KITCHENAID STAND MIXER, AN ANOLON PAN, A WÜSTHOF KNIFE, A MICROPLANE GRATER, AND A LUCA & BOSCO GIFT CERTIFICATE BECAUSE . . .
THE PEOPLE CHOSE ME! FIRST PLACE BABY, YEAH!
A big write-up to is to follow but in the meanwhile, I would like to extend a giant thanks and many hugs to my friends who came out to the to support me. Thank you for letting me feed you full of frozen treats! Thank you as well to everyone who voted. It is such an honor! Thanks as well to all my fellow Takedowners! You guys make me excited for every event!
David Langkamp, you are the best ice cream bitch helper ever! Thank you for hauling all of my sorbet and for being the world’s best scooper!
And to Matt Timms, organizer extraordinaire, thank you and never stop rocking!
Recipe to follow soon!
Oh my, oh my, oh my! WOOHOO!
Huge congratulations my dear! Last year a visitors award and this year you scored it all with a 1st place!
So proud!
Thank you, dear Lucas! I wish you could have been there. You would have had so much fun!
I bet 😀
One day for sure! And congrats to you on the first paycheck!
THANKS!
🙂
Woah! Major Congrats.. Now *I* want ice-cream bitches 🙂
Thank you, John! Everyone should have an ice cream bitch 🙂
Awesome! Congratulations! You always make such creative things for these competitions. Wish I could try them!
Thanks, Mike! I really appreciate it! I was actually worried that this one was kind of boring in comparison to some of the others at the Takedown. But I had a real vision of what I wanted and am so happy that it came very close!
One day I am sure that you will be in town for a Takedown! Or even the next time you are in town, I’ll make some for you!
Now I’m curious as to what the other creative flavors there were at the Takedown. Thanks for the invite – I may have to take you up on it someday!
Congratulations!
Thank you! I was really happy!
Yay! Congratulations! I am so proud of you. All that hard work and years of palate refining paid off. Your ice cream sound incredible.
Please remember us, your fans and minions when you are famous.
No seriously, looks like a great turn out, you did good.
Yes, *burp* all those years . . . how could ever forget you . . . your name’s Genie, right?
(And thank you! Where is the button for favorite comment?????)
BTW, I have the recipe write-up forthcoming! It’s not too late for Our Growing Edge, is it?
Awesome, you can submit to August’s edition which is open now. Looking forward to it. Tequila is a very dear friend if mine 😉
Hooray! I will submit!
Tequila is a dear friend of mine too. I have another friend who says that one time, she and tequila had a fight and tequila won…
I have a healthy respect for tequila. As long as we don’t try and battle it out for the top spot, we can be friends. There are tequilas you should sip and there are tequilas that you should slam. I don’t really do slammin anymore.
That’s why your sorbet sounds so amazing. It’s something to be savoured.
Sipping tequilas are the best! I love a good one with a sangrita chaser. Yum, yum, yum.
And thank you again, Genie! When you come, I will make it for you!
Yeah baby!! Congratulations.
Thank you!
Congratulations, dear Daisy! I’m soooo proud to know you! And I wish I could be there. To support, I mean (not that I would have refused to taste the winning batch – or any of the “test drives” that preceded the final version ; -) ).
Aw, thank you Undina! I wish you could have been there too. One day I am certain that we’ll be able to pull off a bi-coastal tasting. Guinea pigs, er, friends are always welcome!
Congrats! If you keep winning all these small appliances you’re going to need a bigger kitchen.
Thank you, Poodle! Appliances possibly overwhelming my apartment? This is very true.
OR, I could sell them all for perfume money…
Fabulous, Daisy! I’m so proud of you! And a Kitchen-Aid mixer! Not too shabby! Hugs, my friend! xoxxo
Thank you, Birgit! That means so much!
The mixer is mint green and adorable — not too shabby at all!
Am sending you many big hugs back!
Way to go girl!!! Congrats! That sounds so delicious and you didn’t even have to put any bacon in it (at least I am guessing you didn’t)!
Thank you, dear Houndy! Yup, this one was dairy, egg, and sadly bacon-free.
But mango and bacon . . . there’s a thought 😉
You are too modest, my dear. Congratulations! I want to hear all about it!
And…I wouldn’t have been a good taste-tester (or ahem good-taste tester) because I am sadly allergic to mango unless you cooked it to death. Next time, I will test the tequila for you 🙂
Allergic to mango???? *blink blink*
Well, it will have to a just tequila and limes then — not the worst thing in the world 🙂
Hajusuuri! You are the best! I will tell all at over Brooklyn Brunch this weekend. I’m so excited to see you and thank you for the congrats!
WooHoo! Happy dance! 🙂
Thank you, Mouse! I happy danced too!
Congratulations!! As someone who loves wordplay I think you deserved to win for the name alone! Can’t wait to hear more about it 🙂
Thank you so much, Edna! I can’t take credit for the name; another friend came up with it. It’s a good thing too because ¡Soy Ameri-mango-cana! was a terrible, terrible alternative!
Omg Im sooooo proud of you!!!!!!
Thank you, my dear! I miss you!
Congratulations…that had to be so exciting! On top of that, you won such nice prizes. 😀
Thank you, Karen! It was such a fun day. I went into it just wanting to have a good time and the prizes were icing on the cake! Thank you again!
You won a KitchenAid? Won one? My God I am, as the kids do say, Well Jell. Well they probably don’t say that any more..
I know! The organizer always makes sure that the prizes are great. Never thought that I would win a Kitchenaid mixer though! It’s a great surprise. Now just have to figure out where to put it…
What! So awesome Daisy! Way to go!! Y tu Mango Tambien is … possibly the best mango-frozen-dessert-name I’ve ever heard. I can’t wait for the recipe — sounds like it might be spicy, which is so where my cold-treat mind is these days. Congratulations on another well-deserved accolade lady. Yum yum.
Thank you, Hannah! And thanks for the the kind words about the name! I was a little apprehensive that it was a little racy, but my helper told me that a spicy sorbet needs a spicy name.
As for it’s spiciness, it’s really not spicy at all — or at least not to me and probably not to you either. I used a Mexican chili seasoning called Tajin Classico, which is sort of a very common fruit seasoning south of the border. It’s very inexpensive and worth having around the house. Recipe to follow soon!
