I just wanted to let you all know that I passed my dissertation defense Wednesday.
I am now a completely useless kind of doctor 🙂
I cannot help you if you’re in cardiac arrest, but I can textually analyze you 🙂
After months of exhaustive work, I am very much looking forward to getting back to two things in life that give me pleasure: cooking and being in regular touch with you all.
I want to thank you all for all of your support during this long process. I couldn’t have made it this far without you!
More updates to come,
PS. The day after the defense, I got an hour-long massage at a fancy spa, ate a giant plate of fried food, and did not open MSWord once 🙂
PPS. And big thank you to Kelly for my very own “Not that kind of doctor” T-shirt from ThinkGeek.com. I am wearing it with pride! You’re the greatest!

Thank you, Scroungelady!
Thank you, Lior!
Yippie!!! Congratulations! All your hard work paid off!!! I will put you on my speed dial in case I have a textural analysis emergency. 🙂
A textual analysis emergency? Great allegorical scott! I’m on it!!!
Congratulations, Dr. Daisy! Now, it’s time to break open some champagne or simply to sit back, chill out with a glass of wine and a spritz of some great perfume. I look forward to your post-dissertation adventures. 🙂
Thank you, Victoria! It still hasn’t sunk in yet that it’s over and everything feels pretty surreal!
I have been trying to ease back into life slowly though. I got a haircut today and am feeling more like myself with each passing hour!
Yah hooooooooooo!!!! Hooooooo!!! Yeah! I’m so happy for you. 🙂 Oh yes….Like the previous poster, Victoria, said should we refer to you as “Dr. Daisy”? I like it…it has a nice ring to it.
Thank you, RubyandWheaky!
For a while, I had my students refer to me as Grandmaster D — because I was their teacher and I could make them do that 😉
But Dr. Daisy works too 😉
Ross: Phoebe, there is no secret, okay? I didn’t propose!
Phoebe: Are you lying? Is this like that time you tried to convince us you were a doctor?
Ross: I am a doctor!
Haha! I completely forgot about that one. Hilarious!!!
Thanks, Undina! It feel good to have the defense behind me.
More time for sniffing perfume and eating bacon! Maybe not necessarily at the same time 😉
Congrats, Dr. D!
Thank you, Michelle!
Wow! And yay! And congratulations!! So, so happy for you. 🙂
Thank you! Your music got me through to the end 🙂 Thanks for sharing your amazing band with me!
Aw, shucks, you’re so welcome! I’m flattered to say I got to help you become Dr. Daisy. 🙂
Fleet Machine is on heavy rotation in this small studio apartment 🙂 Thanks again!
Congratulations Dr. Bacon! That is an amazing accomplishment – you deserve a big pat on the back!
Ah, Dr. Bacon. That has a nice ring to it. I saw a long time ago that there was a company that printed business cards on beef jerky. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Impractical, but delicious!
Seriously? That’s slightly insane but very interesting! What kind of company was it?
It was called Meat Cards, but their website seems unoperational now …
Here was another blogger who ordered them:
Ha! Funny. But I think you need something more lasting for your doctoral achievement. What was the focus of your PhD?
I’m in the French Department, so it was ostensibly about food and contemporary French literature. Most people confuse it and think I’m writing about French food, but it is really more like Francophone authors who use food in literature.
It feels good to be done with the defense too 🙂
Double smileys! 🙂 🙂 !
Yes was wondering what had happened to you!
Yes, the dissertation took over my life! Am slowly starting to reclaim it bit by bit. My revisions are due in a couple weeks, but I hope to be able to get a little more blogging in before then. I missed you guys!
Congratulations on a job well done!
Thank you, Karen! Sorry it took me so long to reply; your comment ended up bizarrely in my spam folder! Has this happened to anyone else?
Thank you so much for rescuing me from the spam folder. More importantly for letting me know. I have been commenting on all the blogs I follow but my comments aren’t showing up…now I know why. I’ll have to investigate. I may need a good researcher like yourself. Hope this comment gets to you.
Got this one! I think that once I rescue one from the Spam folder, any replies follow. That is really frustrating though about the comments. It happened to another blogger friend of mine, so now I always check!
Thanks…I appreciate your help.
No problem. Will let you know if it happens again!
I belated congratulations!! Can’t wait to start reading your posts again 🙂
Thanks, Edna! I look forward to being back in the kitchen!
Hehehe…you’re welcome! You totally deserved it! You worked so hard! Congrats again!
Thank you! Another friend of mine told me there is a secret handshake . . . did you learn that?
A big congratulations to you, lovely one. So well deserved, and so exciting. Gee, you’re almost at the end. Hooray!!! Can’t wait to celebrate in NY with you.
Wow, I’m so proud of you.
Thank you, Nicole! I am very much looking forward to celebrating in New York with you too!
Hope all is well and am sending much love,
Congratulations Daisy!! You are PhinisheD 🙂
Thank you, Hannah! I can’t wait for the revisions to be finished so I can finally relax!
Congratulations Doctor Daisy. I must say, Doctor Daisy has a nice ring to it. As does Doctor Bacon Biscuit or Doctor of fine French food.
Thank you! It still hasn’t sunk in yet. My final revisions are due on Friday, and I think that after that, I will feel very strange!
Thank you! Final revisions are due on Friday. Can’t come soon enough. I want my life back!
Congratulations! I can’t wait to see what you are going to be “cooking” up now! 😉
Thank you! After everything is uploaded for the final time on Friday, I can get back to figuring out what to do 🙂
Well don’t forget to enjoy some nachos!
Congratulations, Daisy! Now onto the fun part of life…
Thank you, Valerie! Looking forward to it 🙂
Thank you, Mouse!
Thank you, Alex!
Thank you, Mama Miyuki!
