As if I didn’t learn my lesson the last time . . .
I will be competing in this year’s Brooklyn Cookie Takedown! Just like the Brooklyn Bacon Takedown: 300 samples, but minus the bacon.
Come out and cheer me on! I’m not the best baker or cookie maker on the planet, but I can guarantee you something weird, wacky, and hopefully tasty!
The Takedown is scheduled on December 16, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Bellhouse in the Gowanus. The organizer has informed us that there are only 35 tickets left so move fast! Tickets are only $15 and gets you samples of 30 competitors’ cookies + unlimited Bulleit Bourbon eggnog.
To buy tickets, click here!
I’ll be cheering you on from the Deep South. Much success!
Thanks, Scroungelady! I made a demo batch of non-winners yesterday. They were still good, but I don’t think the recipe was “the one.” Still experimenting!
If we had the cash we’d pay you a visit! Good luck…
Thank you!
Btw, did you ever get that email I sent you? It’s been a few weeks now . . .
Will there be bacon in your cookies? I love the poster. It’s incredible.
Thanks! I wish! But I think that there are going to be a lot of vegetarians at this one. And People’s Choice has the biggest prize.
Eye on the prize π
Are there special categories for gluten free, dairy free etc?
Nope, just two: Judges’ Choice and People’s choice.
Your New England reader will be rooting you on in spirit…best of luck.
Thank you, Karen! Whoo hoo New England!
Oh, wish we could be there to cheer you on! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
I will feel you guys there with me in spirit! I tested out a batch of something the other day. Hard as rocks. I am an abominable cookie baker. If you have any tips, am wide open!
I used to be the cookie baker extraordinaire. (This year, we’re one oven down and the other only working halfway and our new one isn’t set to come until Januaryβso people will have to do w/o the holiday cookies. Though my non-cooking law partner said: “come and use my oven.”) But I haven’t ever tried to make a recipe up … I just follow them precisely!
I feel kind of liberated, actually, because I don’t make cookies very often.
I do have to say though that the primary reason why my cookies don’t always turn out is that I never follow the directions precisely!
Can’t wait to see what you throw down! I wish I could be there to cheer you on (and eat cookies, of course). π
Thanks, Emmy! Started testing early since I don’t bake cookies very often. It’s a good thing; I’ve always wanted to master the chewy cookie.
But now, I’m thinking . . . shortbread? I have an idea π
Go Dr. Bacon Biscuit! I know you are going to whip up something fabulous and wow the judges! Squeaky, Stevie, and Ruby and rooting you on too. π
Thank you! I hope so. I don’t make cookies very often, so this is kind of a good learning experience for me. Any tips or ideas welcome!
Ah the things I miss by being on the other side of the world…
Have you picked a recipe yet? Theme? Want me to raid my Nan’s old recipe book of faves?
Not yet. Still experimenting! But definitely open to suggestions and ideas. I say go for it and raid Nan’s recipe book π
Oh, I’m from NYC and I didn’t hear about a cookie takedown? Shame on me. π Good luck!
Thank you! If you go onto Matt Timms’ Takedown site, I think you can sign up for updates via his twitter account.

I live to far away to cheer you on but good luck!

Thank you so much, Alabasterwrists! Will keep everyone updated!
Seems to me, all that experimental baking is a tasty excuse to get some serious cookie eating done. Go Cookie Monster!
Me want COOOOOOKIEEEEES!!!!! Om nom nom nom!
Seriously though, Cookie Monster is my favorite Sesame Street character. Those goggly eyes just slay me every time π
I just checked out the sweetnicks page….WOW! The orange blossom and rose pistachio nougats and the adult lollipops! I am going to have to wait until after Christmas when my checkbook is replenished (hopefully) to order…you have some seriously great stuff!
Thank you so much! All of her candies are really wonderful. In the summer, we will hopefully be at one of the food markets in the city. That sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Will keep you updated!
I am answering your OT question on your site:I am a native New Yorker- born and raised in NYC but now reside in the Hudson Valley (upstate NY). By the way, does/would sweetnicks allow me to purchase samples in lieu of the full amount? I have to get through the expenses of the holiday but come the new year I would really like to try some of their products (hopefully a project I have in the works will come to fruition and when it does I will tell you about it…I know I am being cryptic but I don’t want to jinx myself!).
Hi Brie!
Living upstate that would explain the rush through Grand Central that you referred to π Unfortunately, Sweetniks doesn’t do samples, but if you shoot me a PM via the Contact tab on this blog, I’m sure we can figure something out.
Good luck on your project! I know how it feels to not want to jinx something you are hoping for. I have my fingers crossed for you; I know it is going to be fabulous!
